I got the chance to experience a live training with Johnny Wimbrey.  The word “DYNAMIC“ doesn’t even encompass him.  He is extremely inspirational, funny, charismatic, humble, driven, talented, and so much more.  He really knows how to get you fired up.  I didn’t realize he had a book out until I visited his page on Facebook.  I knew I had to get it!  And I’m very glad I did!  He also put lots of quotes in his book, which I absolutely loved!

 

Johnny broke it down in very simple terms.  Easy to implement.  The first point he made is Your Past Does Not Equal Your Future!  Simply put, you determine what you will become.  Who ever told you life was fair?  You have to want to live and take control of your future.  You have to determine that you are going to be different from your past.  It is the past, no matter how good or bad.  He discusses real life events from his life to illustrate and see what his past was and how he overcame many obstacles to be the success he is today.

He also writes about the power of our tongue!  The words that we speak about ourselves and our situations.  Death and life are in the power of the tongue.~Proverb 18:21(KJV) Negativity drains you!  And miserable people love to make other people miserable.  I have a positivity bubble around me:)  And when I get around negative people, they will pop it if I’m not careful.  Be the person who speaks life into situations, encourage someone.  Don’t allow yourself to kill your dreams before you even accomplish them, just because someone else says “You can’t do it”.  Prove them wrong.  He also discusses how you are not able to hang around some people and expect to grow and improve your mindset.  Just like you can’t be around a negative person without becoming negative yourself.  You can’t continuously hang out with people who are talking about other people, instead of goals and solutions.  And he tells us, it’s not just people.  It could also be places or things that distract us.  Are they helping you to grow or are the keeping you stagnant??

 

Mastering the Mind.  When you come upon adversity, trials, tribulations, or temptations, how long do you allow it to distract you?  When do you decide enough is enough and move on?  You must set your mind.  You can’t hold on to things.  You have to forgive and move on.

 

~Other people’s reality of you doesn’t have to become your reality. ~Les Brown Wow!  Did you get that?  How bad do you want it?  You can’t let someone else determine how far you go.  Do they pay your bills?  Set it in your mind that you are a winner!  Winners do what they have to.  They do what others won’t.  Failure is not an option for a winner!  ARE YOU A WINNER? Attitude is choice!

 

I can’t do this book justice in my review.  I have already recommended it to several friends and family.  I have recommended it to my teammates in my .  It’s truly insightful and a book I will read several more times!

Meal Replacement Review-My life

Establishing an Exercise Routine

Many people start the New Years off with many resolutions about living healthier and getting exercise. Was that one of yours at the beginning of the year? Many people by this time have long forgotten their resolutions. But how important is it to keep up with some sort of exercise routine? When is a good time to start an exercise routine?
Let’s just say “Right Now!” is a good time because of how important exercise is to the body and mind. Start out spending 5 or 10 minutes warming up so your body gets prepared to exercise. And definitely don’t forget to stretch out those muscles. If you do the same thing every time you work out, you very easily could have gotten bored! Mix it up. Alternate activities when you exercise. Don’t just get on the treadmill. Hit the bike, swim, play tennis, walk a new trail. Since exercise can increase the formation of free radicals, it’s always good to have some extra protection. Make sure you are eating your fruits and veggies!

Target these main muscle groups in your exercise routine
There are 7 main muscle groups you should work on throughout the week.
1. Chest
2. Biceps (front of the arms)
3. Triceps (back of the arms)
4. Abs (can be worked daily)
5. Back
6. Front of the legs
7. Back of the legs

You should be working these muscle groups at a minimum of 3 times per week. By alternating the muscle groups, you will move the stress around the body and allow your muscles to heal between workouts. Also, this allows you to keep things interesting. For example, if you do upper body on Monday’s workout, then do lower body on Wednesday’s workout. Then back to upper body on Friday’s workout. Because your abs are the core you should be doing these daily. Our body’s are a balanced machine, so work the upper with the lower and the front with the back. We stress these 7 muscle groups because there is more of a metabolic benefit and the bigger the payoff when its comes to weight maintenance.
How long should my exercise routine be?
Your routine should be split between cardio and resistance: 30 min each. Your cardio exercises should be rotated. This allows you to spread your stress around your body and it adds variety. So, Monday may be the treadmill, but Wednesday hit up the bike, and Friday do the elliptical. If you can put in more than 3 days a week, GREAT! This allows you to split up your routine even more. It also allows you to work on smaller muscle groups. It’s recommended that you do your cardio exercises after your strength training.

So, how many calories can I burn?


Don’t get to hung up on this. Remember you should have a well-balanced diet in addition to an exercise routine.

Chocolate frosted donut 1 donut=360 calories 1 hour of playing baseball
Pecan Pie 1 slice=500 calories 60 minutes of swimming
Double burger w/fries 1 burger & large fries=1,100 2 hours of jogging
Ranch dressing 2 tablespoons=150 calories 30 minutes of doing aerobics
Mayonnaise 1 tablespoon=100 calories 22 minutes of brisk walking
This should give you a good idea how much is really needed to burn the foods we eat. Most people tend to overestimate the calories burned through exercise, and assume that a little exercise will burn off the calories in any indulgence.

 

 

My Mind and Exercise Routine


Exercise is not only wonderful for our bodies, but also our brains! Exercise can boost brain power and fight off diseases like Alzheimer’s. Hormones that are stimulated during exercise also stimulate other hormones that are believed to facilitate brain nerve cells in branching out and communicating with each other. Exercise slows the aging process in the brain, and can actually reverse it! People who exercise regularly tend to have higher levels of neurotransmitters that regulate mood. As with the body’s muscle mass, the same holds true for the brain:Use it or lose it! Exercise not only helps with chronic conditions, it also promotes wellness.

 

What are some ways to fit fitness into my daily routine?


Take the stairs when you can
Park out in the parking lot when you are going shopping
Exercise while watching t.v., especially during commercials
Take the dog/kids for a walk
Spend ½ of your lunch eating and the other ½ walking around the building or parking lot
Several times a day, get up and stretch, especially if you sit at a computer all day

All of us want to be healthy and active in our golden years.  Healthy enough to travel, get around by ourselves, play our great-grandchildren, enjoy our retirement community, and family.  But if we aren’t taking car of our heart and bodies while we are young and vibrant, then we could be looking at a very different old age.  Breathing machines, bottles of medication, difficulty getting around, nursing homes, depression and too many illnesses to name.

I’ve shared some very easy ways to implement healthy choices and some more difficult choices.  Our heart is very key to a healthy body, also  Maintaining a strong, healthy cardiovascular system is essential to your overall health and quality of life.

Here are a few ways to start making life choices today that will give you the heart of a champion!

Step up your game!

Get your body moving!  Regular exercise-jogging, weight lifting, playing sports- is key to a healthy heart and a rich and fulfilling life.  Don’t care for sports? Get out and walk.  Taking 6,000-10,000 steps every day is terrific for your heart.  You can find a pedometer at Walgreens, sporting good stores, CVS, Wal-Mart, etc.  A pedometer is a great way to keep track of how many steps throughout the day.  Try out different types of exercise.  I used to play soccer.  I don’t care for lifting weights, but I really enjoy group exercise like Zumba.  Did you know walking approximately 1,000 steps  (1/2 mile) only burns 47 calories.  So, for that 250 calorie Dr. Pepper I love so much, I would have to walk over 5,000 steps!!  It’s not looking so good anymore!

 

 

 

 

Eat like a winner!

Forget the fast food!  Junk the junk food!  Start implementing a heart-healthy diet! That means healthy protein, healthy fatty acids, like Omega-3′s, lots of water and plenty of fruits and veggies.  Don’t skip meals.  Schedule regular times for meals and snacks.  And try not to eat anything within a few hours of going to bed.

 

Rest, Recharge, and Rejuvenate!

Sleep deprivation has been linked to an increased risk of heart problems.  We all live a busy lifestyle.  many times we are tempted to shave an hour or two of sleep to “be more productive”.  RESIST that temptation.  Think of it this way: For 8 hrs every day of your life the most productive activity you can engage in for your health is sleeping.  So, get a good night’s sleep!

 

 

Heart of the Matter

There are nearly 100,000 miles of arteries, veins, and capillaries in your body!  They allow nutrient-rich blood to nourish the cells and organs of your body  But when they are blocked it can result in heart attack or stroke, the #1 and #3 leading cause of death in the U.S.  Obesity is a major risk factor for heart disease.

Take a close look at the food choices you’re making.  It’s important to get enough protein to maintain or build your lean muscle mass.  Watch your intake of “good fat” and “bad fat”.  Fish is a good source of Omega 3 fatty acids- “good fats” that are essential for heart health.
